Moment of Silence

Words can’t express the emotion and sympathy I feel for my fellow Oklahomans who have experienced devastation, loss of property and loss of family members in the past few days.    I just can’t believe that Moore has been hit twice with F-4 and F-5 tornadoes—in May 1999 and May 2013.

I just keep watching images of the recovery efforts at the two elementary schools.

I just can’t imagine.

Please send good thoughts and prayers to those affected by these terrible storms and as more storms move into the area, please pray for the emergency workers and first responders.

This moment of silence is for all those in Carney, Bethel, Dale, Little Axe, Shawnee and Moore and other places around the nation effected by these storms.

  • Thoughts are with those affected by this terrible devastation. I can’t get over the photos in the news.

  • I couldn’t believe what I heard and saw on TV this morning…it’s so terrible. My thoughts are with those families.

  • Since we don’t watch TV and i haven’t been online much, I have only caught snippets about the tornado damage but I gather it was awful and I surely sympathize, living in KS. Can’t believe it skipped us this year (so far). I’m so glad that you’re OK, Debra, and my prayers are surely with those who suffered loss of any type due to the storms. Thank you for the links!

  • Ugh, this breaks my heart. I’ve hugged Dudette harder these last few days than ever before. It’s been tough sending her off to school because what happened in OK hit home how much lack of control we have over life. I’m praying and will continue to do so. The holes in those parents’ hearts will never, ever heal. It makes me hurt.

    • Thanks to everyone that commented.

Yes, there are lots of hugs to go around and many more needed. I just checked up on some former students today who live in Moore. I was able to talk to one on the phone and email back and forth with the other. One is an ER doc now and she was still upset about the whole ordeal. It took her 3 1/2 hours to get to her hospital to help. Luckily, neither one of their homes were hurt but one just narrowly missed getting hit. So scary and sad. They said that everyday on the way to work or home they are both reminded about it because of all the devastation around them.

Kudos to the celebrities (like Kevin Durant and others) and corporations (like Chesapeake) who have donated money to help rebuild.

  • Thank you for this post. Can you believe it’s flooding here this morning? There are cars that were heavily damaged by the tornado and now, because of all the lightening the alarms are going off – everywhere- all over Moore. Lots of donations have been rain damaged now. They are showing pictures of donations under tent tops that have collapsed under the sudden heavy rain and are now ruined. I have to get across town to a conference this morning and it doesn’t look like I”m going to be able to slosh through this mess for a while!

    • I just can’t believe it. We were trying to decide whether to donate supplies or make a monetary donation. You have just helped me decide. I think someone should do “Moore Strong” t-sirts because these people must have resolve and drive to live through this.

  • I think they are! I just saw on the news that for United Way’s fundraiser is doing some sort of TShirt. It’s sanctioned by state government and will benefit people directly in Oklahoma affected by the tornado.

  • Was thinking of you as I read about the devastation. Hope all is well.
