Two roads diverged in a wood…

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
—from “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost
I have alluded to Frost’s idea before—ironically enough in another post about New Mexico.  (See “Always Take the Scenic Route.”)  During our recent trip to Northern New Mexico, we were alerted to another scenic route—this one:

Carson National Forest Mountain Roads

See the green lines snaking south from the upper right corner and then converging with Forest Road 437 going west?   Yep we drove all of that, dirt rutty roads and all.  We climbed clear to the top of the range and saw some spectacular views.

We packed a lunch of cheese, olives and nuts and ate lunch here.

There’s a log in the center of the meadow where we ate lunch.

It was a great day trip and I recommend this route with two caveats:

  1. Make sure you are in a truck or SUV.  The road is marked with warning signs:  “No passenger cars.”
  2. Make sure it hasn’t rained in a while or you could possible get stuck.

Otherwise, take this less traveled scenic route.

More on our New Mexico trip soon.
