Frozone Super Hero Popsicle for Food ‘n Flix: The Incredibles

Bob and Helen Parr used to be among the world’s greatest crime fighters.  Fifteen years later, they have to adapt to civilian identities and retreat to the suburbs to live a ‘normal’ life with their three kids.

And fourteen years later, there is a sequel.

Welcome to the June round of Food ‘n Flix and The Incredibles.    This month, Kelley at Inspired Meals is hosting and it’s just in time to help celebrate the release of Incredibles 2.

The original (from way back in 2004) is voiced by Craig Nelson, Holly Hunter, Samuel L. Jackson and my favorite unique voice of all time, Sarah Vowell (author and a once frequent contributor to This American Life).  Vowell was also born in Oklahoma so I feel like we’re kindred spirits and such.  🙂

There wasn’t a lot of food in the film and I had to really pause and replay to catch it.  Here’s what I found:

  • Leftover Night: peas, macaroni, and applesauce for the baby; salad, broccoli, carrots, mashed potatoes, steak and meatloaf for the others.
  • I think I saw blueberries on the table, too.*
  • Chocolate cake
  • Wine, French fries, fruit bowl (grapes, figs, plums, bananas, pears) at dinner with Mirage
  • Mimosas and shrimp cocktail
  • Pear from fruit bowl in suite at Nomanisan
  • Coconut thrown as a distraction

I wasn’t really inspired.   I thought about doing a Tiki drink to jump on the island theme and the 60s vibe of the film.

Then, I saw Frozone.

That too-cool-for-school cat that plays sidekick to Mr. Incredible. I am certain that in Frozone’s civilian life (as Lucius Best) he has used his super powers for good—to make popsicles.

Frozen treats for the super heroes in your life—full of super foods like blueberries and pomegranate.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 c. fresh blueberries*
  • 1/2 lime, cut into thin slices and then quartered
  • 3/4 to 1 c. pomegranate juice

Instructions

  1. Divide blueberries between popsicle molds and layer with the lime slices.
  2. Pour in pomegranate juice. Use a wooden skewer to help remove any air pockets.
  3. Freeze overnight.

Yield: 4

Prep Time: 10 mins.

Total time: overnight freeze time

(Besides the berries I think I saw on the dinner table, the blueberries are a nod to Frozone’s baby blue super suit.)

Thanks to Kelley for hosting this month.  I really enjoyed revisiting this original film and I am so ready to fight the crowds and go see Incredibles 2.  Check out Kelley’s inspired-by egg rolls.

Apparently FnF is going on a bit of a hiatus for the summer with “intermissions” for July and August.  Plan to join us in September when Food ‘n Flix hosts its 8th Anniversary!  To celebration, participants can choose from any of the previously viewed movies to create inspired food!  There’s a lot to choose from—check it out.

I’ll leave you with some words of wisdom from the Incredibles own Q:
