More reading at the lake.

I am trying to get through this huge stack of foodie magazines plus peruse my new copy of At My French Table by Dorie Greenspan.

I have back copies of Sunset, Eating Well, Travel & Leisure, Food and Wine, and Bon Appetit.   Some are as old as May.

What have I gleaned from my leisure reading?

I love Dorie Greenspan and I see a lot of French food in our future.

I am going to make some herb-infusions (for health and taste) when I get home.  Pick up this month’s copy of Food & Wine for a wonderful sounding lavender-rose honey (“Healing Foods,”  page 62).

I need to pick up some rosé  and see if it sparks my imagination like it did for Adams Sachs in “Provence La Vie en Rosé”  in this months Travel + Leisure

See this month’s Sunset for some great classic camping recipes that have been “rebooted”  like Chicken Enchilada Nacho Bowls, Coconut and Fresh Pineapple Upside Down Cake, and Tofu and Eggplant Hobo Bundles.   (I also loved the hints  in “Taking Your Kitchen to Camp.”)

Virginia Willis “Lightens Up Summer”  in this month’s Eating WellI can’t wait to try her re visioned classics like Macaroni Salad (with lo-fat mayo and whole wheat pasta) and Mama’s Potato Salad.

The May edition of Saveur had great authentic Mexican recipes and the June/July edition was all about BBQ.  Yum!

In the most recent copy of Mother Earth News (August/September), “Top Tips for Great Fall Gardens”  by Vicki Mattern reminded my of all the chores I need to do when I get home to prep our fall garden beds.

That is as far as I have gotten.

I will report that the Tuscan Flatbread was delicious and that we have spotted an Orchard Oriole,  several Eastern Bluebirds,  and one giant woodpecker.  We have not been able to identify him yet.

I am going back to reading and sipping iced tea and enjoying my last afternoon at the lake.
