My Great Aunt Jaunita was the loveliest and kindest person. I remember her bringing out these cookies in a paper towel-lined tin container and passing them out to guests. Mom and I raved about them and had to have the recipe. This cookie is so light and delicate and GOOD.
Amish Sugar Cookies (from Aunt Jaunita)
1 C. sugar
2 sticks butter
1 C. oil
2 eggs
1 t. cream of tartar
1 C. powdered sugar
1/2 t. salt
4 1/2 flour
1 t. soda
1 t. vanilla and almond extract
Mix together sugar, butter and oil. Add eggs and cream well. Add sifted dry ingredients and extracts. Bake about 10 minutes at 375.
They should not get brown. Drop by small balls, press top lightly with a fork. Makes 100 cookies.
