It’s Movies & Munchies time and I’m hosting for December. I initially thought about just asking the members to pick their favorite holiday film but after further thought (and consultation with Wendy), I landed on Klaus.
I was first introduced to this film by Nephew I. I can’t remember the exact reason why we watched it, something about the technology or the illustrator (or something—he was super excited). We’ve watched it every holiday since then.
About the film:
When Jesper (Jason Schwartzman) distinguishes himself as the postal academy’s worst student, he is stationed on a frozen island above the Arctic Circle, where the feuding locals hardly exchange words let alone letters. Jesper is about to give up when he finds an ally in local teacher Alva (Rashida Jones), and discovers Klaus (Oscar® winner J.K. Simmons), a mysterious carpenter who lives alone in a cabin full of handmade toys. These unlikely friendships return laughter to Smeerensburg, forging a new legacy of generous neighbors, magical lore and stockings hung by the chimney with care. An animated Christmas comedy directed by Despicable Me co-creator Sergio Pablos, KLAUS co-stars Rashida Jones, Jason Schwartzman and JK Simmons. (from Netflix)
The film is available on Netflix.
While I haven’t watched the film this holiday season (yet), I do know that there is a lot of fish that could show up in inspired-by recipes.
Or, you could share your favorite snack-while-watching-family-movies recipe or anything holiday related. Cookies for Santa, anyone?
Finally, it might be because I’m of a certain age, but I find myself strangely attracted to Klaus.
Don’t judge.
Have a great opening to your holiday season and please join our Movies & Munchies group on Facebook. Once you’ve joined our merry band on FB, just whip up an inspired dish and post it (before December 31.) Email me at eliotseats@gmail.com and leave a comment on the events page at M & M. I will post the event on December 15 but you can post up anytime in December.
Looking forward to itDebra. Thanks
we don’t have netflix so i don’t know this movie but it sounds cute!
[…] While it is not a foodie film, it is full of the holiday spirit (and feuding families). We were a small but mighty group this month. You can read the announcement post here. […]
