Wow, what a great Friday night—early summer temperature with a light breeze—just the right patio sitting weather!
Around 2:00 at work I decided it was time for the first patio party (which, as the summer progresses, becomes a Friday night ritual for us).
I perused through my adult beverage recipes and found one I had clipped from Bon Appétit a couple of summers ago for a Bicicletta Cocktail. I loved the story of this recipe: “Bicicletta is said to get its name from the old Italian men who favor it, and who, after indulging in a few, wobble home on their bikes.” It was an interesting aperitif, but I think I like the story better.
Here it is:
Ice cubes
2 ounces Campari
1 ½ ounces dry white wine
½ ounce club soda
Lemon slice
Fill wine glass with ice. Add Campari, wine and soda; stir to mix. Garnish with lemon slice, if desired.
We actually had some fresh strawberries from the garden and we threw those in as well. We found that if we bit the strawberries in half before we added them to our glasses, the flavors melded together better.
We went through a few strawberries!
