A League of Their Own Roundup for Movies and Munchies

The Movies & Munchies  foodie film group watched A League of  Their Own (1992) for the July feature. I hosted and it took a while to decide on a film for July. While A League of Their Own might not have a lot of culinary inspiration, it is a great baseball movie.  Let’s see what our team thought.

Amy’s Cooking Adventures remarked about the typical baseball food from the film and ran through a list of recipes she previously posted on that theme. Definitely worth a look to see her  Chicago Dog, Corn Dogs,  Cracker Jacks and Baseball Tortilla Pizza!  She further dug in her archives and found this cute baseball stadium cake:

Well done, Amy, and I’m glad this Movies & Munchies Round gave you the opportunity to post this!

Wendy of A Day in the Life on the Farm also noticed the lack of real food. “It is a fun movie and I enjoyed watching it again. There is not much food in the film but it is a baseball film so plenty of inspiration there.”

She whipped up some popcorn, but not any popcorn. Here’s her Salted Maple Caramel Corn with Nuts.

She posted this recipe for both the League of their Own event AND the Cook the Books round for Family Tree where there’s lots of things maple.

Camilla enjoyed the film (remembering it from her college days). “This definitely wouldn’t be called a foodie movie, but there was food in it…mostly baseball related. Obviously there were chocolate bars as the league was sponsored by a Chicago candy-bar mogul. I also noticed peanuts, beer, hot dogs, and Coca-Cola. Ehh…still not a lot of inspiration. I finally decided to make a hot dog I would enjoy. Enter Bánh Mì Dogs.”

What is more quintessentially American (and available at all ballparks) but Coca Cola. I decided on a Coca Cola chocolate cookie. The chocolate is a nod to the Harvey bars from the film and Garry Marshall’s appearance as the league’s founder, Walter Harvey. Here’s my Coca-Cola and chocolate inspired recipe: Double Chocolate Cola Cookies.

Thanks to the regular crew for playing along this month and hitting it out of the park!

Join us in August as Camilla hosts Find Me Falling (2024) starring Harry Connick, Jr.
