We subscribe to a gourmet food club from our a local “fancy food” shop. There is usually something unique for us to pick up each month, but it is usually not the most “local” of ingredients.
As fall is here, the basket had the ingredients for a hearty autumn mean—dried tomato tortellini, Alfredo sauce, and a bread mix. I was truly surprised to see that the jarred Alfredo sauce was made in our state and the bread mix was actually milled just across the state line. Alas, the tortellini was imported from Italy.
Well, with a salad made from greens from the farmers’ market and one of our tomatoes, we were “mostly” local!
Note: I just have, have, have to brag on that Alfredo Sauce. It tasted truly homemade. The sauce was so thick, I had to basically dig it out of the jar. I will definitely buy this again and I can’t wait to try their other products. Check it out at http://www.scaffettas.com/.
