Okay, okay—I know that last year’s flavor-of-the-month was eating local and that we jumped on the Barbara Kingsolver bandwagon. But, we are still visiting farmers’ markets, seeking out local purveyors, and trying our darndest to grow our own food.
Well, here we go again. This time it is biodynamic gardening that has caught our fancy. “Celestial Gardening” in the Oct/Nov edition of Organic Gardening is going to get the blame for this current tangent. Please note I am a total novice, but here are a few principles that I gleaned from the article:
- Movement of cosmos guides planting and cultivation
- Raised beds
- Composting manure underground
- Utilizing manure “tea” and silica elixirs
Ya’ know, it just all kind of makes sense. Since we are creating a whole new garden bed from scratch, this will be our laboratory for the BD experiment.
