It’s that time again—FPP time.
I was so excited this month. First of all, I was paired was Debbie (whom I sent to) and it was the first time I had been paired with a fellow blogger.
Secondly, Kristen got me and sent me a most awesome care package. On her first contact with me to ask my likes, dislikes, etc., she disclosed the following:
I live in Washington, DC but am originally from the Philadelphia area. I am an archeologist by trade but am currently working at a law firm (just a paycheck while I try to get back into archeology). Some of my hobbies are hiking, cooking, going to beer/wine/food festivals, travel, reading/watching true crime, history, and my bocce league.
Bocce!?!?! Archeologist?!?!?
How cool is that?
Kristen sent me a whole lotta cool stuff.
She wrote:
I’ve included two brittles from Egypt (I can’t read Arabic so I have no idea what’s in them), some hibiscus tea—also from Egypt, Halim candies, a carrot-orange jam, and a bag of local, organic tortilla chips. It’s kind of a random mix, but I hope you enjoy them.
Here’s the run down…
Thanks, Kristen. I may have to find my own local Mideastern market now.
She also included a recipe for an adult milkshake, a spiked “do-si-do” milkshake. I find it hilarious that this alcoholic milkshake is based on a Girl Scout cookie. 🙂
If you want to join in the fun, here’s a detailed explanation of the FPP program:
-On the 5th of the month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you can choose to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
– Foodie Penpals is open to US, Canadian residents & UK residents. Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa. So, I’m going to keep two separate lists and match US w/ US and Canada w/ Canada!

Love this club! Your box is so cool–I love unique things like what you got. Such fun to experience new foods!
Yes, and I recently found a Jerusalem market that I really will be revisiting because of this FPP.
Wow, what fantastic loot! I’m hoping some day I will have time to join this wonderful group!!!
The anticipation each month is crazy!
A fun and exciting experience!
What a fun basket and from so far away! I would be especially interested in the jam. YUM!
I finally just now broke out the brittle. Yum! Will have to let you know about the jam.
This is such a neat idea. You scored some interesting items there. And what a cool pen pal!
I loved all of it!
I love this group. It’s so much fun to make and receive these packages. Yours looks fabulous.
I just got September’s too and it is awesome.
