Cocktail hour?

What’s happened to good old-fashioned cocktail hours?  You know the kind:  those idealized soirées with ice buckets,

We had one just like this at home growing up, We used it to serve hot rolls at Sunday dinner! 🙂

cocktail shakers,

I would love one of these to go with the penguin ice bucket above.

Since it’s now officially Spring and the weather is conducive to cocktail time on the patio, I wanted to bring back this tradition or at least this tradition with some delicious potent potables.  (I probably won’t have a fancy apron on.)

Here’s one that I based on The Marilyn Monroe.   I grabbed some peach brandy instead of apple brandy to whip this up. (A Marilyn has apple brandy for the base.)

Scarlett O’Hara Cocktail*

Based on The Marilyn Monroe

Ingredients

  • 1 oz. peach brandy
  • 4 oz. Champagne
  • 1 dash grenadine
  • 1 maraschino cherry

Instructions

  • Add peach brandy and grenadine into a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake well.
  • Strain into a saucer glass and top with champagne. Garnish with Maraschino Cherries.

Serves 1

I originally wanted to entitle this a “Southern Belle” cocktail but after a quick search I found out there is a bourbon-fused drink by this name.   So, who’s the most famous and Southern of all the Southern Belle’s?  Of course, Scarlett herself.

Cheers!

Here’s to a great Spring Break!

(With the peach brandy and the grenadine, this is a very sweet drink.  Add the champagne and it becomes a bit dangerous—just like Miss O’Hara.)

*OK—Just before posting, I googled “Scarlett O’Hara cocktail.”   Alas, there is one of those as well.

Oh, well–maybe I will call this the “Carol Burnett Cocktail!!!!!”

Not a cocktail drinker, but the shakers look fun and I like the sounding of a peach brandy based drink.

When Bobby and I were still working we had cocktail hour every Friday at 5. Now that we’re both retired, we have it anytime we get the craving. Love having a cocktail on a Monday at 3. 🙂 Love the Scarlet O’Hara Cocktail!

Some days do require a cocktail after work!

That’s one great cocktail! Cocktail hours most days at 5:00 here, keeping the cocktail hour alive and well, even though it seems vanished most places! 🙂 Love the Carol Burnett name too, funny!

That is too funny, I also did a bubbly cocktail for spring. I think we should get together and swap cocktails and try the mall, looks great.
