Here’s this month’s In My Kitchen hosted by Sherry’s Pickings.
I am so ready for March. For February being the shortest month, it was unbelievable tedious, frustrating and maddening at work. But, with March comes Spring Break…so there is that.
🙂
I received a great cookbook, Sweet Potato Soul by Jenné Claiborne. We are not vegetarian and definitely not vegan, but this might be my new favorite cookbook.
You can read my review here and see a recipe from the book here (Coconut Corn Chowder).
Lemons Are a Girls Best Friends is just a cute little book. Petite in size, it holds 120 recipes highlighting 60 super foods.
Janet Hayward includes an “inside” and an “oustide” recipe for each featured ingredient. (“Inside” refers to traditional recipes for ingestion—salads, smoothies, entrees. “Outside” refers to recipes and techniques for making your own beauty products.) Look for a full review here soon.
I hate to post this next bit, especially after featuring these two healthy recipe books, but here goes:

Utz Pub Mix
Sometimes you can find it at Aldi’s but most of the time we purchase it at World Market. There is totally nothing healthy about this stuff but it is delicious (and addictive).
March’s IMK is going to be pretty book heavy. I also purchased the next Cook the Books‘ selection: Shark’s Fin and Sichuan Pepper by Fuchsia Dunlop.
You can read the CTB announcement post here. Shark’s Fin is the April/May featured book.
If you’re Spring Breakin’ soon, you might want to pick up one of these books for the road or at least some Pub Mix to munch on during the trip.
I’m linking up with In My Kitchen, hosted by Sherry’s Pickings.
Books! Books! Books! What a great thing to have in your kitchen. I have a couple of new cookbooks but no time or motivation to explore them at the moment. And I just heard of another book devoted to lemon recipes. Glad you have some nice snacky unhealthy stuff to counterbalance all that virtue.
best… mae at maefood.blogspot.com
I have really got to organize my cookbooks and I think a giveaway would certainly be in order! My MiL is a lemon freak. She would love that cookbook you reference.
I love the books but wow — I gotta’ try that Pub Mix! We have Aldi here so I will look. If not, next time I’m at World Market — I’m getting me some!!
Be forewarned! The mix is a dangerous thing! 🙂
Lots of wonderful books this month! I should organize my bookshelf soon because I hardly cook any recipes from cookbooks.
I can’t wait to read Shark Fin!
oh yes i read Shark Fin years ago. can’t remember much about it tho. i keep buying cookbooks even tho my shelves are groaning and buckling:) but i don’t care. i just love them. thanks for joining in. cheers sherry
Thanks for hosting, Sherry. I am definitely a cookbook and recipe hoarder. Is there help for that?
I love cookbooks! Well, I love all kinds of books, but cook books are a delicious (pun intended) kind of literary porn. The Sweet Potato Soul book looks especially good – I’m always happy to have more plant based book recommendations, so I will search that one out at my local library. Thanks for sharing!
Cookbooks are delicious (and addictive).
Oooh, more tempting cookbooks, and I just hauled away a boxful to a secondhand shop. I love searching recipe inspiration online, but nothing compares to the pleasure of paging through a new hard copy cookbook.
I probably should haul some in as well….
Great books but I am very curious about the Shark’s Fin and Sichuan Pepper one! Time is flying by even if winter is painful.Only realized at 4pm yesterday we were changing the clocks!
Yep, lost that hour early this morning! 🙂
I so want to try that Utz Pub Mix – what is in it? I find anything salty addictive 🙂
Lots of unhealthy stuff like rye toasts, little cheezie things, some sesame crackers….:)
I will have to check out sweet potato soul at the bookshop, it intrigues me as a veggie and I cook a lot with sweet potatoes!
I think I will be using it a lot.
I hope March is a better month for you. I love the look of the sweet potato soul book – thanks for alerting me to it!
It’s a good book for vegan and nons alike.
