Taos

Just got back from Taos.  A potentially great trip was dampened by the fact that our family pet was deathly ill and at the vet for the entire week we were traveling.  We did try to enjoy ourselves in between dire phone calls from the vet.  The good news is that our little pet did fully recover!

We stayed at La Fonda and had a Plaza facing room.  The fiesta was going on and it was wonderful to open our window and hear the crowd.

We dined at Eske’s one evening and had a wonderful light meal.  I had a roasted beet and goat cheese salad that was truly wonderful.  Make sure you sit outside under the trees and listen to live music.  I would definitely visit this establishment again.

Also had to visit the Adobe Bar which everyone told us epitomized Taos night life.  Service was poor and I was not really impressed.  We did enjoy setting outside and watching the characters, inside and out.

The best meal of the trip had to be at Joseph’s Table at our hotel.  This meal ranks up in my top ten.  I had the Tres Primos (Eggplant Enchilada, Piñon Mole, Yam Tamale, Dried Fruit Empanada, Green Rice,
Avocado Salsa, Poblano Coulis).  I definitely want to revisit this restaurant and try something else.  But, in reality, this meal was soooo good that I will probably order it again.

Also, if you have not been to Yart, you must go.  It is a funky, elective, cool place.  We bought a few plants to bring home.  I saw a lot of hollyhocks mixed with Russian sage around town.  I want to try to recreate these gardens at home.

We were also fortunate enough to hit the Taos Farmers Market.  It isn’t the largest, but it is quaint and of course we bought a lot of local flavor.

Finally, we visited the San Francisco de Asis Church in Rancho de Taos.  We each said a little prayer for our little pet and I bought her a St. Francis medallion.  The prayers and the medallion must have worked because it was a real miracle that she made it.
