There is no book review today. What is happening? It’s just a somewhat normal post like I used to do.
Let me start at the beginning. About four weeks ago, I had to be out of town for three days. The Hubs texted me and asked if I wanted any strawberries because they were giving away flats at the local farm stand. I said sure.

By the time I got home a day and a half later, most of these beauties were totally fuzzy and had to be tossed.
Sigh….
I did salvage enough to make Tequila por Mi Amante, a recipe I have been saving for 15 years. (Yes, it was a clipping from a local magazine from April 2010.) Since my beloved had toted all these free strawberries home, the least I could do was infuse some tequila. (I also found enough un-fuzzy strawberries to make one batch of jam.)

Tequila por Mi Amante, or Tequila for My Beloved
Recipe from Tequila por mi amante. (2010, April). Oklahoma Magazine.
Ingredients
- 2 pints of fresh strawberries
- 750 ml tequila blanco
Instructions
- Wash, stem and halve the strawberries and place in a large jar. (I used a 1 ½ gallon one.)
- Pour the tequila over the top. Let sit in the refrigerator for three weeks.
- Strain the tequila into a bottle and store in refrigerator.
The strawberries soaked up a bunch of the tequila so I didn’t get a full bottle above. I could not bring myself to throw those strawberries away so I pureed them and froze them for some slushy drinks before summer is over.
According to the accompanying article, Tequila Por Mi Amante is drunk straight in Mexico but it can also be mixed with a bit of lime juice, grapefruit or lemon-lime soda.
We created this cocktail which was delicious!
