This week’s TTT theme is all about book covers. I can say that I have been known to wander through bookstores and pick up books based on their covers (more so than the title or author). Here’s what I came up with this week.
- Recipe for a Perfect Wife by Karma Brown. I have to say that I need to refute what I just said. I did buy this book for the title, but I LOVED the retro look to the cover. (I also want to put in a plug for this book because it is the current Cook the Books selection and I’m hosting! You can check out the announcement post here.)
- The Heart: Frida Kahlo in Paris by Marc Petitjean. I love anything Frida and I bought this as soon as I saw the cover. I have yet to have time to read it.
- The Secret Book of Frida Kahlo by F. G. Haghenbeck. This was another book for CTB that I hosted back in September 2016. I love this cover and I absolutely bought this one because of the art (and Frida).
- Mexico by Josh Barkan. I seem to be on a theme here. I saw this book reviewed on a friend’s blog and loved the cover. She sent me the book.
- Holy Terror: Andy Warhol Close Up by Bob Colocello. I absolutely bought this (for $2) at a used book sale totally because of the pop art cover (and Andy Warhol).
- Of Love and Other Demons by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. After I looked around my most recently acquired book stacks, I went into my old stacks and pulled a few beautiful books.
- Posession: A Romance by A.S. Byatt. And, apparently I went down another theme.
- Guinevere: The Legend in Autumn by Persia Woolley.
I quickly realized that I have a few favorite books with similarly art-themed covers. - Chatterton by Paul Ackroyd. See what I mean?
- And, since I’ve gone down this Pre-Raphaelite art cover road, I’ll end with this one:This was a great exhibit at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art last year. I love this art so I bought the catalog of the exhibit.
Next week’s theme for Top Ten Tuesday is “Books On My Fall 2020 TBR.” I have so many….
Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by Artsy Reader Girl.
The title Holy Terror combined with that cover has me curious!
Book covers used to influence me more than they do now, as I mostly read e-books, where you don’t exactly see the covers until you buy the book. Sad for the cover art designers!
be well… mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Found you from That Artsy Reader Girl.
Must say, very tastefully selected book covers. Love the Kahlo ones, and even Recipe for a Perfect Wife (but that title, haha).
My own top 10 Tuesday is just random TBR book covers (https://lexlingua.co/tuesday-10-tbr-covers/).
Very nice list of older books. I’ve read a couple of them but am very interested in them all. Like you, I love anything “frida”
Ha, this is a similar take on the cover freebie as I did. Great post! So much nice color. Happy Tuesday!
My post: https://followinggoodbooks.wordpress.com/2020/09/15/9-15-20-top-ten-tuesday-dont-judge-a-book-by-its-cover/
Book cover art can be really interesting. Although I’m with Mae — I never read physical books these days, just ebooks, so I have no idea what the covers actually look like. And when I go to books stores the books are more often than not displayed spine out, so less chance to judge a book by its cover. So to speak. 🙂 Fun post — thanks.
I judge books by their covers too! I love the vintage one.
I really like that antique-styled cover for Guinevere; it would definitely entice me to pick that book up.
