Spring has sprung and with it has been some hellacious storms. I hope wherever you are that you and yours are safe. Hope we get past this extreme weather soon. I grew up in tornado alley, but good grief, these new breeds of storms are deadly and destructive. Be safe out there.
I hate to say this again, but not a lot has been happening in the kitchen ’round here.
I did get a great new mug at a recent Yelp event. It’s the perfect size for that mid-morning cup of tea that I can enjoy on the patio (as soon as schools are out).
We’ve been making a lot of plant sales and herb festivals (and we’ve been buying way too many plants). I found this cookbook (of course) at a recent one.
Only $3 and it’s one of those great community/club compilations. I can’t wait to dig into it.
We also bought this tiny seedling, a Caviar Lime (or Australian Finger Lime). We will see if it ever reaches maturity.
I’m on my second or third batch of Kombucha. I think I mentioned this in my last IMK post. I’m on to doing other flavors like lemon, lime, and lemon-lime. I’m also experimenting with some other variety of teas. I usually use Earl Grey but am trying one of my all-time favorite holiday tea flavors with spicy cinnamon. I wonder how it will turn out?
I enter a lot of Taste of Home contests and months ago I received an email saying I was a runner-up in the “Cooking with Fire” contest and that I would receive a free cookbook or magazine in the mail. The thing with the ToH contests is that unless you’re one of the big winners, you don’t know the specifics like which one of your recipes won. You have to wait for announcements. I wasn’t surprised it was this recipe. You can see the original post here or view it at the Taste of Home site.
For my curveball….
On April 8, we traveled to Texas to watch the total eclipse. We met family in the Houston area and then traveled to Austin and on to Blanco State Park to see the eclipse. The good news was that the weather was cool and not sweltering. The bad news is that it was cloudy.
It was still a fantastic experience. I cannot believe how dark it got and how eerily calm everything was. The media was hyping on dogs going nuts during the eclipse but our Newt was a trooper and maybe whimpered once.
I’m linking up with Sherry’s Pickings, the host for In My Kitchen. Check out all the posts from kitchens around the world.
Congratulations on the runner-up in the “Cooking with Fire” contest with your olive recipe, that is great.
Some months just are not kitchen months! I know how you feel. We’re having a very slow one, with quite a bit of time being spent somewhere else. Last month was ok, but this month I’ll have to just post a photo of a peanutbutter jar and a tuna fish can. Maybe a sleeve of saltines? I know just what you mean.
best, mae at maefood.blogspot.com
I cannot resist community cookbooks. they are always so useful and full of really workable dishes. So much interesting weather around lately, and what about the northern and southern auroras? I have seen so many wonderful photos on social media but sadly we didn’t see them in real life up here in Queensland. Thanks for joining in this month! COngrats on being a runner-up in the cooking contest too.
cheers
