I am excited about hosting Food ‘n Flix this month.
You may think this is an odd choice, but bear with me.
I just watched the 25th Anniversary edition of The Breakfast Club. Seriously? What’s even sadder is this 25th Anniversary edition is over three years old. Ouch! (For those youngsters out there, The Breakfast Club was part of John Hughes’ homage to teenage life in the 80s. His other films in this genre include Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Weird Science, Some Kind of Wonderful, Sixteen Candles, and Pretty in Pink.)
I grew up with the Brat Pack. (For those youngsters out there, these were actors that were either in this film and/or Joel Schumacher’s St. Elmo’s Fire.)
I loved Judd Nelson, Andrew McCarthy, Emilio Estevez, and Rob Lowe (in that order). I wanted to be Demi Moore or Molly Ringwald and I wanted Mare Winningham and Ally Sheedy for best friends. I thought Anthony Michael Hall was a cute side-kick (just sayin’.) I wanted to live in Chicago or a suburb (where a lot of these films take place). I lived vicariously, what can I say. And, I was of an impressionable age. (Note: This is not a definitive list of the Brat Pack and sometimes C. Thomas Howell, Matthew Broderick, Jon Cryer, John Cusack and Robert Downey, Jr. are listed as “members.”)
So when I saw this film mentioned on some foodie film list somewhere, I immediately thought, “Hmmm….that’s interesting.”
I can’t wait to see what you all dream up. What kind of cereal sandwich, sushi, or high-caloric wrestler meal will you post? Or will you dream up something with an 80s twist? Maybe you will create a breakfast dish that Asst. Principal Vernon should have served his delinquent students upon their arrival to Saturday detention because breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
Surprise me. I know you will find some good inspiration in this teen-angst dramedy from the beloved mid-80s.

Who will you be inspired by—a brain, an athlete, a basket case, a princess, or a criminal?
Wow—that was a blast from the past!
I remember watching this! I too, am from this age group – more Robert Downey, Jr. and Demi Moore than the younger ones but still…..Hmmmmmmm………I may just have to do this! I’ll watch it again and see what I can come up with! 🙂
I hope you decide to participate, Kelli. I think this might be a little “out there” as far as the food references are concerned but I just couldn’t resist putting it out there.
I’ll have to think on this one. It would be fun, but my time is already so stretched. A funny thing on the side. I tried to watch the Dead Zone series on Netflix and couldn’t finish it because Anthony Michael Hal
Oops. Is the main character and I can’t get past him in this and Pretty In Pink. 🙂
That is hilarious!!!!
I can’t wait, this is such a fun and unexpected choice! It’s definitely a favorite of mine, and fortunately I own it…so I may have to watch it a couple of times this month! Thanks for hosting, Debra :).
You are more than welcome. I want The Hubs take on it (b/c he is my creative source many times) so I think we will re-watch it tonight. Can’t wait to see what you dream up, Heather.
Oh, gosh, this movie used to be on TV all the time…some of those scenes are ingrained in my brain. Can’t wait to see what you come up with 🙂
Yep, it is a classic. I can repeat many of the lines. LOL
Not sure I have watched the film before….gotta check it out.
All the best with the event, Debra.
Angie
I would love to hear what you think about it, Angie.
Oh this is such fun Debra! I’m really really really going to try to “play.” I’m actually a mother of a couple of kids, (who are now grown:) who watched many of these movies more than once. I don’t know the scenes verbatim but I may just be able to come up with something. I did after all, feed them, and their houseful of friends on “movie night.” Thank you so much for sharing…
I hope you can participate!
This is a classic! I bet I’ve watched it at least 25 times! It never gets old. Hum – I might see what I can whip up for this one. Great choice of a flix!
Will milk be made available? I don’t know why, but that is one of my favorite lines. Hope you join us.
Great idea!
Thanks, guys.
LOVE this movie! What a fun idea!
Is there anyone that doesn’t love this movie? 🙂
I thought I’d have a hard time thinking something up for this . . . But I got it!
Fantastic! Can’t wait to see what you came up with.
Oh my gosh, that is my favorite movie of all time!
Awesome. Hope you can participate!
It’s my first time participating, and I am so inspired by the Brat Pack – a play on the Rat Pack!
Thanks for joining us! Love your Breakfast Club-Elvis inspired bagel!
