I’m finding it a bit difficult getting into the holiday spirit this year. We should be elated that 2020 is nearing it’s blighted end, shouldn’t we? I usually have a well-prepared-in-advance theme for my holiday posts and I originally thought I would highlight recipes from some of my retro holiday magazines (like Gourmet, Martha Stewart, etc.) It remains to be seen how festive it will be at EE this December.
But, on to happier tidings!
This month’s Food ‘n Flix feature is The Holiday (2006) with Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law and Jack Black. I’m hosting! Yes, it’s cheesy and predictable and light viewing. In other words, it’s exactly what we need right now.
As I’ve mentioned before, I don’t like sentimental rom-coms. But something about setting a film during the holidays makes me giddy. (Remember my addiction to Love Actually?) It might also have something to do with the British settings. Who knows?
Please join us at Food ‘n Flix for some holiday fun. Membership is open to anyone. Grab a copy of the film, relax with a cup of eggnog or spiced wine, and watch the film with your favorite someone. Then, create something delicious inspired from the film. It could be a classic English dish or Hanukkah recipe or maybe you just want to highlight your family’s own holiday favorites.
You could also post your New Year’s Eve recipes. Please consider participating if even for a distraction.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Watch The Holiday. Taking inspiration from the film, head into the kitchen and create a recipe.
- Post about it on your blog with a link back to THIS POST. Use of the logo is optional.
- Alternately (or in addition to), post a photo of the dish you made on Instagram (public accounts only). You must include the following in your caption: short intro, recipe (if only posting on Instagram), #FoodnFlix and tag @foodnflix.
- Your post must be current (during month of film). And, of course we don’t mind if your post is linked to other events…the more the merrier.
- Have fun with it and get into the spirit of the holidays!
- Email your entries to me at eliotseats@gmail.com (and cc: heather@foodnflixclub.com) and include:
-your name
-name of blog as you want it written (or Instagram account)
-name of the dish/drink you created AND a direct link to your post (blog or Instagram)
-attach a photo or give permission to pull one from your post
-indicate “Food ‘n Flix Submission” in the subject lineSubmissions are due by the end of the day on December 31, 2020!
I am not sure I have watched this one before…definitely gotta watch it this holiday. Thanks, Deb!
There are parts that are a little insipid (especially with Diaz’s character) but that’s the nature of a feel-good rom-com, right?
I haven’t watched this one in years. Looking forward to it, thanks for hosting!
Hope you enjoy! Happy Holidays!
No lie — I’ll be happy to see the backside of 2020. Such a long, difficult year. Anyway, haven’t seen this movie — looks like fun!
It’s good for a fun evening in (which is what it’s all been about since March). 🙂
