By Eliot, on May 18th, 2010 Future pickings.
Finally home from a hectic, CRAZY, and absurd day at work. Could not wait to get to the garden.
I remember the few times we had a successful garden growing up and how I thought picking, preparing, and putting up our produce was a tremendous chore. Now, I find . . . → Read More: Shelling peas.
By Eliot, on May 9th, 2010 As written earlier, I ordered every variety of lettuce imaginable, along with at least one package of a “Lettuce Mix.” Here are the results.
Salad everyday.
By Eliot, on May 5th, 2010 Strawberries are here! There is nothing like the first strawberry, picked and eaten right in the strawberry patch. That, to me, is the real announcement of summer nearing.
The first taste of summer.
Picked a large basket full this afternoon. Plan to make jam for presents.

By Eliot, on May 3rd, 2010 Having family in Colorado, we travel I-70 often. Let me tell you, that is one long stretch of Kansas geography! We have our little landmarks along the way–the top hat guy, the wind farms, and the roadrunner. (If you have ever made this trip, you know what I mean.)

By Eliot, on April 1st, 2010 OK–maybe it is our fault because we stored the birdseed on the patio, but it was in a trashcan with a closed lid. Apparently, the lid was easily mastered by a raccoon. A year ago, we had found a baby raccoon creating a ruckus on our patio by jumping on the trash can and trying . . . → Read More: Blinkie
By Eliot, on February 17th, 2010 Seeds are started and we go out each evening to see what is peeking through the potting mix. We bought masonry mixing tubs, drilled holes in the bottom, and are growing lettuce, spinach, radishes and carrots. (I planted a short stubby variety of carrots so they would have just enough room to grow.)
Getting ready . . . → Read More: Seeds are started.
By Eliot, on January 10th, 2010 Now that winter has officially decided to stay around, I want to share with you the best part of the greenhouse. Of course, I love that we can move all of the patio plants out of the garage and can park inside again. I love that we have seeds started for the spring garden. I . . . → Read More: Rushing home.
