The first day of spring

It’s the first day of spring and we are already enjoying radishes, spinach, lettuce, basil, parsley and oregano.  The greenhouse is wonderful.  I have starts of 30 tomatoes including a new one for us:  Wisconsin 55.  I got the seeds from Seed Savers, an awesome place we hope to visit this year.  I have heard their festival in October is unbelievable.

This variety seems to be beating out the rest of the tomatoes seeds for top spot.  We also started Jelly Bean, Amish Paste, Cherokee Purple, Big Beef, Roma, and a few cherry tomatoes.  The Jelly Beans are really struggling.  If we don’t have enough tomatoes for everyone we know (and then some) I do not know what we are doing wrong.

So far, I have spent around $100 in seeds.  We have been to the area herb festivals and feel pretty bad for the vendors because this year we only bought three or four plants–not our usual wagon load.

Again, I think we can eat on the cheap with the greenhouse and I think we can eat better!
