I love this recipe. I found the original recipe for Berry-Serrano Pepper Jelly in a special BH&G publication last summer. I have morphed and changed it often. You can find the original recipe here but just go shopping down the juice aisle and you can get inspired to make all sorts of combinations.
If you have lots of jalapenos (as we do) from the garden then whip up a batch or two or three. Don’t be afraid of using all jalapenos in this jelly instead of throwing in a green pepper as is the norm with traditional pepper jelly recipes. Simply remove the seeds and white veins from the peppers. I, however, do leave about half the jalapenos whole for a bit of spice. The best way to chop the jalapenos is to through them into a food processor.
Jalapeno-Berry Jelly
I based this on a serrano pepper jelly that was strained. I adapted the recipe here.
Ingredients
- 1 c. jalapenos, seeded and finely chopped
- 1 1/2 c. cranberry-berry blend juice. (I used a Cranberry-Blueberry-Blackberry blend from Ocean Spray.)
- 1 c. apple cider vinegar
- 5 c. sugar
- 1 (3 oz.) pkg. liquid pectin
Instructions
- Combine jalapenos, juice, vinegar and sugar in a large kettle. Stir to combine.
- Bring mixture to a boil over medium heat. Keep stirring to dissolve sugar.
- When mixture comes to a boil, whisk in pectin and bring to a rolling boil. Boil hard for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
- Remove from heat and skim off foam if needed.
- Ladle into sterilized jars, leaving 1/4-inch headspace. Wipe rims, adjust lids, and screw on bands.
- Process jars in water bath for 5 minutes. Remove jars and cool.
Yield: 5 half pint jars
As you can see from the above picture, I only had one 4 oz. jar left for the “photo shoot.” I had already given them all away. This recipe is much sought after every summer by friends.
If you have a boatload of jalapenos and other peppers this summer, you might want to check out my other pepper concoctions.

And, you have not lived until you have tried any and all sorts of jalapeno jelly on a burger!
I LOVE jalapeno peppers! Can’t. Get. Enough. And they’re SO GOOD in jelly. Haven’t ever made it, though, for some reason. Gotta try this — looks like such a neat recipe. Thanks!
Looks so good on that burger! I am drooling 🙂
Fabulous idea! Trader Joe makes a nice pepper jam, but this is probably a great cost saving. You are lucky to have a good harvest of peppers.
